Richard Petty was known as the King of NASCAR with 200 wins in the No. 43 STP racecar.

Lyon County can again claim the title as the Kings of the 5th District following Monday’s 8-1 win over Trigg County in Monday’s championship game at Jim Boyd Field.

Not only was the district title the sixth straight for the Lyons, but they also drew a parallel to Petty with their 43rd straight win over district opposition dating back to 2019.

The Lyons overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a five-run third inning and tacked on three insurance runs to seal their 18th win of the season.

Eli Baker got Lyon County on the board with an RBI double in the third inning. Korben Lucas added a sacrifice fly, and Colton Prow drove in three runs with a deep single to centerfield.

Lucas would later add a two-run double for Lyon County in the sixth inning. He and Prow finished with two hits and three RBI for the Lyons.

Aidon Butts and A.J. Bell each had two hits for Trigg County, who scored their lone run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk.

Three Lyon County pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and no earned runs. Baker pitched the first three innings and struck out seven, with three hits allowed.

Peyton Williams got the win with two innings of relief with no hits allowed and a pair of strikeouts, and Brady Belt tossed the final two frames for the Lyons.

Chase Hampton got tagged with the loss for Trigg County, allowing five hits and five earned runs.

Both Lyon County (18-7) and Trigg County (12-11) will advance to next week’s region tournament that will be played at Lyon County’s home field.
