Apex puts on road races in South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky and one of the owners grew up in Danville close to where the tornados did so much damage to London and Somerset. That’s why Apex is launching the “Kentucky Strong Virtual 5K” to raise money for those in need.

“We’re stepping up to help because this one hits close to home,” Apex said in a news release. “One of our owners at Apex grew up just an hour from where the storms hit. Even more personal, our very first race as a company was held in Danville just miles from the affected areas.

“That’s why we’re launching the Kentucky Strong Virtual 5K. Run, walk, jog, or bike from anywhere to show your support and make a real difference.”

The best news is that Riverside Church in Fort Myers, Fla., will match all funds raised dollar-for-dollar. So every dollar contributed through an entry fee or donation will be doubled and money sent directly to Kentucky for recovery supplies.

All participants will receive a Kentucky-themed race shirt to  represent their support. Shirts will be available for pickup at: Fleet Feet (Fort Myers, FL),  Black Dog Running (Myrtle Beach, SC), Danville Bike and Footwear (Danville, KY), and Hickory Tavern (Indian Land, SC).

The person making the highest contribution will receive a bottle of Wilderness Trail Bourbon—a distillery-only release available exclusively in Danville.
