
The Caldwell County boys’ track and field team brought home the runner-up trophy from Saturday’s Class 1A Region 1 track and field meet that began Wednesday at Murray and finished on Saturday in Princeton.
The running events were ordered to be re-run on Saturday at Caldwell County High School after timing and scoring issues arose on Wednesday’s original date at Murray High School. The field events were not affected by the scoring snafu.
The top two finishers at region and the next 10 times/heights/distances statewide qualified for the state meet set for Thursday at the University of Kentucky.
Caldwell County totaled 104 points, to finish 14 points behind region champion Fort Campbell and 17 points ahead of third place Murray.
Shane Fairrow came in second place in the 200-meter dash in 23.61 seconds and second in the 100 meters in 11.18 seconds.
Cooper Mobley finished third in the shot put at 43-5.5.
Daniel Laurent finished second in the discus throw at 137-7, while Mobley was third at 136 feet.
Jackson Risley qualified for state in three events, finishing second in the triple jump at 37-10, second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.58), and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.14 seconds.
In the relays, the 800-meter relay team of Gus Fox, Xvaier Lee, Tre Copeland, and Shane Fairrow set a school record time in winning, crossing the line in 1:30.91.
They also won the 400 meters in 44.40 seconds.
The 1600-meter relay team of Elijha Kirby, Gus Fox, Tre Copeland, and Xvaier Lee qualified for state with a fourth place finish in 3:33.18.
The 3200-meter team of Eli Stevens, Evan Ramage, Layton Wall, and Charles Ray finished in fifth place, establishing a new school record time of 8:59.03 and earned an at large berth at state.
In other events, freshman Charles Ray didn’t qualify for state in the 800 meters, but still bettered his school record time with a sixth place finish in 2:08.84.
Tre Copeland was third in the 200 meters in 23.90 seconds.
Colson Mattocks came in third place in the long jump at 18-11.25 and third in the triple jump at 37-0.25.
Daniel Laurent came in fifth place in the shot put at 40-6.5.
Evan Ramage was sixth in the 3200 meters in 11:37.40.
Dayton Wilson was sixth in the high jump at 5-4.
Elijha Kirby came in sixth place in the 400 meters in 55.81 seconds.
Daelyn Lander was seventh in the 100-meter dash in 12.16 seconds.
Donovan Rogers came in seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles in 22.17 seconds.
Hoayang Wu finished seventh in the 1600-meter run in 5:37.10.
Jacob Forsythe was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.97.
Layton Wall was eighth in the 800-meter dash in 2:19.61.
Trey Herron was ninth in the 1600 meters in 5:43.87.
Johnathon Adams was 10th in the 3200 meters in 12:07.79.
