Caldwell Takes Second at Girls’ Region, Will Have 12 Entries at State

The Caldwell County girls’ track and field team had one of its best days in program history with a second-place finish at the Class 1A Region 1 Meet and will have 12 entries at Thursday’s state meet in Lexington.

Kyndelle Mahaffey repeated as region champion in the 100-meter dash Wheelchair in a time of 30.80 seconds.

Addison Middleton-Mobley qualified in three events. She won the 100-meter dash in 13.27 seconds; finished second in the high jump at 16-1.5 feet, third in the triple jump at 30-6.5 feet

Benashka Thomas won the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 7.5 inches. She also qualified for state in the triple jump at 30-4.75.

Medeline Thomas also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the 400 meters in 1:05.47.

Audrey McCoy and Brilee Hubbard both qualified in the high jump. McCoy took the region title with a leap of five feet, while Brilee Hubbard came in second place with a personal best of 4-8.

Caldwell County also had solid showings from its relay teams that qualified for state.

The 800-meter relay team of Benashka Thomas, Medeline Thomas, Chevy McGowan, and Brilee Hubbard nipped UHA at the finish to win with a time of 1:52.71.

The 400-meter team of Benashka Thomas, Brilee Hubbard, Chevy McGowan, and Addison Middleton-Mobley also won a first place medal with a clocking of 53.05 seconds.

The 3200-meter relay team of Kimberly Shrewsbury, Audrey McCoy, Mariah Vickery, and Emily Klidzejs finished in second place in 11:26.98 to nab a state berth.

In other events,  Raylin Acree came in fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.46 seconds.

Emily Klidzejs was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.82 seconds.

Mariah Vickery finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.08.

Brilee Hubbard was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 29.09.

Kimberly Shrewsbury came in sixth in the 800-meter run in 3:03.50.

Karmen Beasley was eighth in the 800-meter run in 3:20.84.

Chevy McGowan was eighth in the 200 meters in 29.59 seconds.

Raylin Acree came in ninth place in the long jump at 13-1.5.

Ziva Falder was 14th in the 100-meter dash in 16.18 seconds.

The 1600-meter relay team of Raylin Acree, Emily Klidzejs, Audrey McCoy, and Medeline Thomas was fourth in 4:40.58.

Caldwell County scored 106 points and was edged by Murray for the region title by three points.
