
The Dawson Springs Panthers claimed three first-place finishes at the Class 1A Region 1 Track and Field Meet on Saturday and will have six entries at the state meet.
Easton Bourland won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:46.83. He also finished in second place in the 800-meter run, establishing a new school record in 1:57.62.
Deacon Dever won the 3200-meter run in 10:44.51.
Sean Stallins qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:06.69.
The 3200-meter relay team of Sean Stallins, Deacon Dever, Montgomery Johnston, and Easton Bourland won with a time of 8:23.93, one of the fastest runs at the regional level statewide this year.
The same group teamed up in the 1600 meters to finish in third place in 3:32.74 and also qualify for state.
The running events were ordered to be re-run on Saturday at Caldwell County High School after timing and scoring issues arose on Wednesday’s original date at Murray High School. The field events were not affected by the scoring snafu.
The top two finishers at region and the next 10 times/heights/distances statewide qualified for the state meet set for Thursday at the University of Kentucky.
In other events, Montgomery Johnston was fifth in the 400 meters in 54.51 seconds.
Matthew Stanley came in sixth place in the long jump at 15-5.5; eighth place in the high jump at 5-0; 10th in the 200 meters in 27.84 seconds; and 11th in the 100 meters in 13.54 seconds.
Chase Miles was seventh in the high jump at 5-2.
Jacob Hines came in eighth place in the shot put at 29-7.5.
Zachary Creekmur came in ninth in the discus throw at 82-5.
As a team, Dawson Springs finished in fifth place with 51 points.
Meanwhile, for the ladies, Olivia Hines came in third place in the 400 meters in 1:07.89 and third in the 800 in 2:43.77, just missing a state berth in both by mere seconds.
Alieah Cook came in eighth place in the 100-meter dash in 14.24 seconds and 11th in the 200 meters in 30.20 seconds.
Miley Lowe was 12th in the 100-meter dash in 15.63 seconds and 13th in the 200 meters in 33.07 seconds.
Dawson Springs finished 10th in the girls’ team standings with 12 points.
