UHA Runs to Fourth Place Finish at Region

University Heights Academy finished in fourth place at the Class 1A Region 1 Track and Field meet and will have 11 entries at this week’s state meet in Lexington.

UHA totaled 78 points to finish behind Fort Campbell (118), Caldwell County (104), and Murray (87).

The running events were ordered to be re-run on Saturday at Caldwell County High School after timing and scoring issues arose on Wednesday’s original date at Murray High School. The field events were not affected by the scoring snafu.

The top two finishers at region and the next 10 times/heights/distances statewide qualified for the state meet set for Thursday at the University of Kentucky.

Griffin McCoy swept the sprints, winning the 100 meters in 11.17 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.14 seconds.

Cole Glover finished second in the 1600-meter run in 4:51.02 and second in the 3200-meter run in 10:54.71.

Logan Miller finished third in the 110-meter hurdles to earn a state meet appearance with a time of 16.08 seconds. He also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a fourth-place finish in 43.44 seconds.

Clayton Lester came in third place in the 100 meters in 11.56 seconds and fourth place in the high jump at 5-8.

In the relays, the 1600-meter team of Griffin McCoy, Clayton Lester, Logan Miller, and Harlow Hampton took first place in 3:28.80, breaking a two-year-old school record in the event.

The 3200-meter team of Zech Davis, Jude Finch, Cole Glover, and Harlow Hampton qualified for state with a third-place finish in 8:50.77.

Also finishing in third place with a state meet berth was the 800-meter team of Griffin McCoy, Harlow Hampton, Logan Miller, and Clayton Lester in a time of 1:32.23.

In other events, Ronan Croney-Sallie was seventh in the long jump at 14-10 and 10th in the triple jump with a personal best of 31-0.75.

Zech Davis was seventh in the 800-meter dash in 2:08.89.

Jude Finch was seventh in the 3200-meter run in 11:51.44 and was eighth in the triple jump with a personal best of 33-8.75.
