
Sophomore Cole Thompson scattered four hits over 6.2 innings as Henderson County blanked Christian County 2-0 Monday in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament in Eddyville.
The northern Colonels scored once in each of the first and third innings to defeat the southern Colonels.
Henderson (11-15) next faces host Lyon County in the late semifinal game Tuesday in Eddyville. The Lyons turned back Caldwell County 6-2 in their first round contest.
Aiden Lewis (2-3) also pitched well for Christian. The senior left-hander did not allow an earned run, giving up two unearned tallies on three base hits. He struck out seven and walked two in six innings.
Thompson (4-3), a right-hander struck out three and walked three before Evan Henshaw came on to get the final out of the game for Henderson.
Hunter Evans drove in the first run of a game with a ground out to short.
Tucker Siewert knocked in the third-inning run with a grounder to first base.
Both runs were scored by runners who reached base on errors.
Christian (15-15) put two on with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a strikeout ended the game.
For Henderson, Cooper Vowels doubled while Corben Throgmorton and Will Schwartz each singled.
For Christian, Sebastian Dazey, Gage Montes, Blake Boehman and Layton Creamer each singled.
