Henderson County Bows Out of State Tennis Tourney

Faced with tough draws, Henderson County’s entries at the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament failed to advance past the first round on Tuesday.

Region runner-up Jaxton Duncan dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Owensboro’s John Clay Ford. Duncan, a sophomore, was making his second state tourney trip.

Jace Evans, who finished third at the region tourney, lost to Waggoner’s Daniel Yera 6-0, 6-12. It was the first state tourney appearance for the Colonel sophomore.

In doubles play, Carson Weiss and Chaz Audas dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Corbin’s John Ball and Connor Middleton, one of the top 16 teams in the state.

In girls’ play, senior Jaylee Duncan lost to McCracken County’s Sophie Hollowell 6-0, 6-0. Hollowell entered the state tournament as one of the top 16 players in the state.

The first day of the state tournament was moved indoors due to rain in the central Kentucky region.
