Madisonville Tennis Teams Drop First Round Matches at Boys State (w/PHOTOS)

The Madisonville-North Hopkins boys’ tennis teams went 0-3 on the first day of the KHSAA State Tournament on Tuesday in Lexington.

The opening round for the guys was moved inside to the Lexington Tennis Center due to rain in the central Kentucky region.

The region champion doubles team of Noah Mays and Justin Rodgers fell to the Henry Clay team of Max Hixson and Mason Johnson 6-2, 6-0. Madisonville won the opening game of the match and trailed 3-2 before the Henry Clay duo scored the final nine points of the match.

Madisonville’s second doubles team of Jaden Heath and Izaac Bridgman lost to the Owensboro Catholic team of Houston Danzer and Joseph Merchant, a top 16 team in the state, 6-0, 6-0. It was the first appearance at state for the Maroon pair.

Region 2 champion Ethan Larkins bowed out in the first round to Ashland Blazer’s Chris Peacock 6-1, 6-1. It was the second state tourney appearance for the junior, who lost 6-0, 6-1 in last year’s first round.
