Henderson Blanks Madisonville to Return to Region Title Tilt

Anna Kemp held Madisonville-North Hopkins to just one base hit as defending state champion Henderson County returned to the 2nd Region softball championship game.

Kemp struck out 10 as the Lady Colonels dismissed the Lady Maroons 8-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal round at Webster County.

Henderson (30-6) will meet Livingston Central (25-6) in Wednesday’s 6 p.m. title tilt. The Lady Cardinals advanced to the finals by blanking Caldwell County 7-0 in Tuesday’s late semifinal game.

Henderson put up single runs in the first and second innings, then opened up the game with a four-run fourth.

Mackenzie Burczyk hammered a two-run shot during the big fourth inning as Henderson stretched its lead to 6-0.

The Lady Colonels added single tallies in the fifth and sixth to make it 8-0.

Saniya Shields was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in for Henderson. Burczyk and Jersey Gardner were each 2-for-4 for the Lady Colonels.

Aubrey Risley and Lillian Bennett each doubled for Henderson.

Maggie Killough’s one-out single in the top of the fourth inning was Madisonville’s only base hit.

The Lady Maroons end the season 24-11-1.
