Hopkins County Central made program history by sending two girls’ doubles teams to the state tennis tournament for the first time. However, they discovered the challenges of the seeding process at the state level on Tuesday.
The team of Addison Rickard and Lilly Armour played well but lost to McCracken County’s Alexis Poore and Cassidy Parker 6-0, 6-0. The McCracken County pair is seeded as one of the top eight teams in the state.
Elissa Adams and Callie Mackey made a return trip to the state tourney but fell to Caitlin McQueen and Morgan Elliott of Sacred Heart Academy 6-0, 6-1. The pair from the Louisville private school was seeded among the top 16 teams in the state.
The tandems from Hopkins County Central were looking to become the first pair since Taylor Howerton and Rebecca Spraggs in 2012 to win a doubles match at the state tournament.
The first day of the state tournament was moved indoors due to rain in the central Kentucky region.
