
Caldwell County had a pair of trips to the medal podium at Thursday’s KHSAA Class 1A State Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky, with a new state record established.
Kyndle Mahaffey not only won the 100-meter dash wheelchair, but her time of 29.17 seconds broke her own Class 1A State Meet record she set last year. The sophomore also set a new overall state record by .40 seconds.

Audrey McCoy also reached the medal podium with an eighth-place finish in the high jump at 4-10. The freshman cleared her first three jumps in the first attempt but couldn’t get over the bar at five feet.

In other events, Addison Middleton-Mobley finished in 10th in the long jump at 14-11, missing a medal by nine inches. She finished 17th in the triple jump at 30-04 and was 23rd place in the 100-meter dash in 13.53 seconds.
Benashka Thomas threw the shot 30 feet, 8 inches to place 13th and came in 18th place in the triple jump at 30-04.
Medeline Thomas ran a 1:05.56 in the 400-meter dash to come in 21st place.
The 400-meter team of Benashka Thomas, Chevy McGowan, Brilee Hubbard, and Addison Middleton-Mobley came in 13th place in 53.22 seconds.
The 3200-meter relay team of Mariah Vickery, Medeline Thomas, Emily Klidzjes, and Karmen Beasley finished in 19th place with a time of 11:29.15.
The 800-meter relay team of Benashka Thomas, Chevy McGowan, Medeline Thomas, and Brilee Hubbard came in 20th place in 1:55.03.
