A former Todd County Central head coach and longtime Hopkinsville High School assistant has been tasked to take over the boys’ basketball program at Hopkins County Central.
The Mortons Gap school introduced Chris Sullivan as its new coach in a ceremony Friday in the auditorium at HCCHS in front of players, parents and Storm fans.
Sullivan has 16 years of experience coaching basketball from the middle school level to varsity head coach. He was a member of two 2nd Region championship teams as an assistant coach at Hoptown in 2012 and 2017, and has won multiple district championships while at both Hopkinsville and Muhlenberg County.
“There’s a lot of young talent here,” Sullivan said of Hopkins Central. “It’s a good core. We know the kids that are coming behind them, too. A lot of talent in that group as well.”
Sullivan has most recently been at Muhlenberg, including the last six years at the middle school.
Sullivan replaces Mason Burgett at Hopkins Central. Burgett stepped down earlier this month after one season with the Storm.
The new coach believes Hopkins Central has the talent to compete in the 7th District and the 2nd Region.
“So, you know, obviously, we want to be able to compete at a high level. And the region (tournament) is obviously where everybody wants to end up.
“You wanna end your season there. District championship would be great. It’s something that we are gonna strive for. Well, like I said earlier, when I was up here talking, we have a lot of work to do.”
Sullivan lives in Greenville with his wife, Megan, and their three children, Barrett, Becket and Ella.
