
Trigg County had a couple of near misses in reaching the medal podium at the KHSAA Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington on Monday.
Peyton Williams came in 10th place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.32 seconds, only .37 seconds off the medal podium. He was also 19th in the 100-meter dash in 11.72 seconds.
David Cavanaugh ran a 2:05.38 in the 800 meters to come in 11th place. His time was a personal best and the sixth fastest in school history behind only Sam Love, Tracey Baker, and Patrick Johnson.
Braxton Hargrove came in 20th place in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.93 seconds.
The 3200-meter relay team of Brody Renfroe, Braxton Hargrove, Dekon Perry, and David Cavanaugh finished in ninth place in 8:44.66, missing a state meet medal by .31 seconds. The same group finished 13th last year in 8:50.
Their time was only the fourth best of the season but the eighth best in school history. The 1997 team holds the school record at 8:27.97.
For the ladies, Alicia McGee came in 18th place in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.92 seconds.
The 3200-meter relay team of Aniya Dawson, Allayah Hargrove, Ella Dollison, and Sophia Quinteros ran through a driving rainstorm to finish in 20th place in 12:18.27.
