Christian County had two athletes reach the medal podium with a school record involved in one of those at Saturday’s Clark’s Pump N Shop KHSAA State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.
Sophomore Satona Bailey finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds, equaling the school record he set at last year’s region meet. According to MileSplit historical information, Bailey is the only Christian County sprinter to break 11 seconds in the 100 meters.
Christopher McCarley threw a 157-04 in the discus throw to finish in fourth place, topping his distance thrown at the region meet by 14 feet. The senior set the school record earlier this year at Mayfield with a heave of 161-3. Saturday’s distance at state ranks as the second-best in school history.
Bailey, Kristin Johnson, Iyobosa Ogbes, and Paul Grace finished in 12th place in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:30.91 – the fourth fastest in school history and the fastest in 23 years.
Ogbes just missed a medal in the high jump, clearing 5-10 to finish in ninth place.
Johnson came in 18th place in the 100 meters in 11.24 seconds, which is still one of the top 25 times run in program history.
Christian County finished in 26th place with eight points.
Symeria Brown was the lone Lady Colonel to run at state, competing in the 400-meter dash. However, her time and place were not recorded in the official results as of Saturday evening, and the results do not list her as being disqualified.
Her unofficial time was just under 1:06.
