The Madisonville Miners sit atop the Ohio Valley League standings after Saturday night’s win at Hoptown.

A nine-run fifth inning blew open the contest as the Miners rolled to a 14-3 victory in eight innings.

At 5-1, Madisonville is a half-game ahead of the Full Count Rhythm (5-2) and a game ahead of the Paducah Chiefs (4-2).

Cliff Wysinger was 3-for-4 for the Miners and drove in four runs. That includes a three-run home run to left field during Madisonville’s big fifth inning.

The Miners sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the fifth inning while scoring nine times and building a 10-0 lead.

Hoptown (0-6) broke up the shutout in the bottom of the inning when Koner Scheidt drilled a two-run homer to left.

But Madisonville was never threatened after running out to the big lead.

Ian Cartwright was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in for the Miners while Wyatt Burris added a double.

Owen Hutcheson was 2-for-4 with a double for the Hoppers while Chance Sweeney and Owen Boswell each doubled.

Madisonville will make the trip to Fulton on Sunday.

Hoptown will head into Tennessee Sunday to face the Full Count Rhythm.
