Candy Hayes, who oversaw the initial transitional plan for Heritage Christian Academy to join the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, will serve as interim athletic director of the Hopkinsville private school for the 2025-26 school year. HCA Headmaster John Walsh made the announcement on Monday.
Hayes served as head of the HCA athletics program from 2018 to 2022, overseeing the school’s transition from the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association to the KHSAA. She also served as cheer coach during that time.
Hayes takes over the role left vacant when Matt McGowan announced he was leaving HCA to become the AD and boys’ basketball coach at Cornerstone Christian in Shelbyville, who also made a recent move to the KSAAA from the KCAA.
