WR Commit Prince Jean Believes in L’Damian Washington

Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley calls Valdosta, Ga., Prince Jean receiver a playmaker because of his ability to make plays in space.

Georgia offered the 6-foot, 190-pound receiver in January at his Junior Day visit but Jean said the Bulldogs had been recruiting him since he was a sophomore (he caught 45 passes for 622 yards and seven scores last season).

Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo also went to Valdosta High School this spring to talk with Jean.

However, Jean turned down not only Georgia but also Kansas State, Mississippi State, Virginia, Alabama, Auburn, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Houston, Nebraska and Memphis when he verbally committed to Kentucky earlier this week.

“My official visit went great. Kentucky just felt more like home. The city was beautiful. The players were having fun. Relationships mean a lot to me and I have been building that with LD (UK receivers coach L’Damian Washington),” Jean said. “I trust his teaching. I can be under his wing and develop and that will take me a long way in football and life. I like him a lot.”

What about the facilities?

“The facilities are nice. Not too fancy. There’s a lot there, but not too much. There’s all that technology stuff but they are more into the basics. They want to develop players,” Jean said. “In our meetings they showed the different ways they can use me and how they will develop me for the next level on and off the field. Getting to watch them practice let me actually see what they can do with me.”

Coming off a 4-8 season, turning over almost 50 percent of the roster and associate coach Vince Marrow leaving for Louisville, the vibe for UK fans has been a bit down. However, it was only good vibes for Jean.

“The vibe around the players was another big thing for me. I really liked how the players vibed and connected,” he said. “I like how they invested in their players.”

Jean said family and friends were “happy” with his college choice.

“It was all love. They were happy I found a home,” the Georgia receiver said. “My Twitter and Instagram blew up. Family, friends, old coaches, new coaches were all reaching out. Everybody was excited for me.”

He was not worried about UK going 4-8 last season, either.

“I did my research. The years before they had some great seasons,” Jean, who has four SEC commits on his high school team, said. “Last year there was a problem with the throw (passing) game not there but they got a quarterback this year who can throw and some new offensive linemen. I think in the (20)26 class we can get some good recruits and put Kentucky football back on the  map.”

  1. Maybe Stoops will stay at home on game day and let L’Damian Washington be Head Coach this season.

  2. Washington will stay a year or 2 and then move on to something bigger. The same way Shorts did. When your a assistant coach or position coach you are only considered valuable if your team is winning. I don’t see how Shorts found another job when its clear our receivers and quarterback wasn’t on the same page last year.
