SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Shane Fairrow

Shane Fairrow made the most of his second chance at this year’s Class 1A State Track and Field Meet.

The Caldwell County track and field standout saw his sophomore season end with a false start in the 100-meter dash. That means an instant disqualification and nullified his shot at reaching the medal podium.

Fairrow capitalized on his second chance as a junior, getting off to a great start and capturing second place at the state meet. His time of 11.01 seconds was a personal best, helping the Tigers claim a fourth-place team finish.

It wasn’t Fairrow’s only medal of the day. He ran the anchor leg on the 800-meter relay that claimed a state title — the first for a Caldwell relay team.

And for good measure, Fairrow added a third medal as the 400-meter relay team took third place.

While he ran a personal best in the 200 meters at state (23.00), his finish fell three positions short of a fourth medal podium trip.

However, all of the above will serve as fuel for Fairrow as he looks to become one of the school’s most decorated track stars in his senior season.

In this YSE interview, Fairrow discussed his run in the 100 meters at state and how it will serve as motivation for the 2026 season.
