The Trigg County football team had between 35 and 40 kids turn out for their youth camp this week, which was split between Perdue Field and the indoor co-curricular building.

“The first day was really instructional, and then the second day we kind of rehash some of that instructional stuff at the beginning, and then we get a chance to let them come have some fun and do a little punt pass kick,” Trigg coach Chris Ezell said.

The two-day camp was open for kids in grades 1-6, with high school players serving as instructors.

“We try to group them with the kids that they’ll play with, first and second graders together, third and fourth graders together, and fifth and sixth graders together, because those guys are playing together hopefully,” Ezell said.  “We’ve got one primary school, and one intermediate school, and to me, the cool thing about Trigg County is those relationships that get built at a very early age, and then, of course, with our high school kids, man, they love it.

Trigg County football great Al Baker served as a guest instructor for both days and provided insight to both the campers and the team. Ezell called it a good bonding experience for his team with the annual dead period looming.

“Everything we do is bigger than one person. That’s really the big thing, and that’s what football is, and that’s what life is, in my view. It’s about teamwork and doing something for the greater good; it’s bigger than you. And I think we do a good job of relaying that to our young men from top to bottom.”
