Offense was the name of the game in the Madisonville Miners’ matchup against the Paducah Chiefs, but they were not able to come out on the right side of the shootout.

The Chiefs racked up 12 hits in the game, and that was the key to them being able to grab the close 9-7 win, which is their first win after seven straight losses.

The Miners struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Cliff Wysinger hit a single that scored a run. But Coulter Hamilton was thrown out at home trying to score, so that was all the runs the team was able to get in that inning.

The team’s next run didn’t come until the bottom of the sixth when Cooper Wright stole home plate. Noah Berning then singled, which tied the game at three runs apiece. Another single, this time from Sean O’Brien, gave the Miners a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Dylan Toler also singled in the eighth to take the lead back after the Chiefs tied the game at four runs. Then a wild pitch and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded made it 7-4 in favor of the Miners.

But a grand slam and a double in the top of the ninth gave the Chiefs a 9-7 lead, which the Miners were never able to come back from.

The team’s offense did very well despite the loss, with their other hits coming from Wright, Hamilton, Justin Early, and Pete Britton.

The Miners will be looking to bounce back in their next game on Thursday, June 26, against the Hoptown Hoppers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, KY.
