Madisonville Golfers Fare Well at Cullan Brown Invitational

Madisonville golfers had a good showing at the Bluegrass Golf Tour’s Cullan Brown Invitational over the weekend at Paxton Park Golf Course in Paducah.

Jake Witherspoon, who will be a sophomore at Madisonville-North Hopkins this fall, finished in second place in the high school division, shooting a two-day total of 3-over par.

Witherspoon shot an even-par 71 on Friday and was 3-over par 74 on Saturday. He totaled six birdies over the two days.

Tyler Bryan finished in a tie for 17th place at 15-over par for the two days. The upcoming Madisonville-North Hopkins junior shot a 7-over par 78 on Friday, which included a 33 on the back nine. He added a round of 79 on Saturday.

Max Clayton, who will be a senior this year, finished in 24th place at +23 for the two days. He shot an 83 with two birdies on Friday and an 82 on Saturday with two more birdies.

In the college division, 2024 MNHHS graduate Gavin Sheets finished in second place, two shots behind the winner Eli Stamper of Scottsville. Sheets won a playoff with Paducah Peyton Toon to claim second place. He shot a 3-over par 74 on Friday and a 5-over par 76 on Saturday. His two days consisted of five birdies.

Kolby Crook, who graduated from Dawson Springs in the spring, finished in fourth place at 10-over par. He shot a 3-over par 74 on Friday that included an eagle-3 on the 15th hole.

Austin Crick finished in sixth place at 11-over par, which included a round of 75 on Friday.

Paul Harris came in ninth place at +30, and Caden Crowell (+31) finished in 10th place.

The annual Cullan Brown Invitational serves as a fundraiser for the Bluegrass Golf Tour and helps fund entry fees and the tour’s western Kentucky division. The event is named after former Lyon County state champion and All-SEC golfer Cullan Brown, who died of cancer in 2020.
