
A tough night at Elmer Kelley Stadium Tuesday night for the Madisonville Miners. The Paducah Chiefs came to town and headed back home with a doubleheader sweep.
The opener saw the Chiefs take a 4-3 win in a game that was tight throughout with neither team leading by more than three runs at any point in the game.
Former Lyon County standout Gunner Bingham led off the game with a shot to center that put Paducah up 1-0. The Miners scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
Brett Haas drove in a run with a single to right in the top of the third to put the Chiefs back in the lead at 2-1.
A Madisonville error opened the door for Paducah to add two runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1. The Chiefs returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of errors of their own that allowed the Miners to score twice, cutting the lead to 4-3.
But that would be the end of the scoring for the game as the Chiefs took the one-run win.
For the game, the Chiefs outhit the Miners 7 to 3. Pete Britton, Ian Cartwright, and Cooper Wright had one hit each for Madisonville.
The nightcap saw Paducah break open a close game with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning and go on to take an 11-0 win.
Three Paducah pitchers combined to throw a seven-inning five-hitter against the Miners.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Chiefs pushed across the first run of the game on a double from Easton Denning.
The Chiefs used six singles, two hit batters, and a walk to score seven runs in the top of the fifth to blow the lead out to 8-0. Paducah added two runs in the sixth and one more in the top of the seventh.
Pete Britton and Dominic Maldet had two hits each to lead the Miners, who were outhit by the Chiefs 12 to 5 in the second game.
