Berning’s Two HR Night Leads Miners to Road Win at Fulton

The Madisonville Miners scored early and often Friday night as they put an end to their four-game losing skid on the road. The Miners scored 11 runs in their first four at-bats and rolled past Fulton 12-6.

Seven of the first eight Madisonville batters reached base in the first inning as the Miners jumped the Railroaders early with a six-run first inning. Pete Britton’s two-run single was the big hit of the inning for Madisonville.

After Fulton got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first, the Miners plated two more runs in the top of the second. Noah Berning was hit by a pitch to open the inning and then Nahzir Bergen took the third pitch he saw over the rightfield fence to make it 8-1.

The Miners help going with the long ball in the top of the third. Noah Berning and Coulter Hamilton left the yard with solo shots as the lead grew to 10-1.

The Railroaders cut back into the lead with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the third to trim the margin to 10-3.

Madisonville scored on a sac fly in the fourth to make it 11-3. Then, in the top of the seventh, Noah Berning hit his second homer of the night, this one over the rightfield fence, and the lead was out to 12-3.

Fulton scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th to get within 12-6 but that was as close as they could get.

Noah Berning was on fire for the Miners, going 4-5, with 2 home runs, and 3 RBIs. Coulter Hamilton ended up 3-5, with a home run, and two RBIs. Nahzir Bergen was 2-6, with a home run and four RBIs.

For the game, the Miners outhit the Railroaders 18-8.

Jackson Grisson got the start for Madisonville, going six innings to pick up the win. He gave up three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking four.
