
The Full Count Rhythm took a big step towards locking up the top seed for the Ohio Valley League postseason Friday night. The Rhythm broke open a close game with six runs in the top of the sixth inning and rolled on to an 11-5 win over the Madisonville Miners at Elmer Kelley Stadium.
The Miners had appeared to have things going their way after scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the third to break a tie game and take a 4-1 lead. Nazhir Bergen and Ian Cartwright had back-to-back hits in the inning to push across the three runs.
Full Count quickly came back from the Miners’ rally. The Rhythm scored four times in the top of the fourth to take the lead back at 5-4. The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer from Charlie Bozeman, from Samford.
The Rhythm then grabbed firm control of the game by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth. The first five batters in the inning all reached base. The rally was capped off with a three-run homer from Blake Carter, out of Lipscomb.
Madisonville trimmed a run off the lead in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI double from Dylan Toler, of Kentucky Wesleyan.
Pete Britton, Nazhir Bergen, and Ian Cartwright led the offense for the Miners, each going 2-4 on the night.
For the game, the Rhythm out hit the Miners 15 to 10.
The Miners had their issues in the field, committing four errors, which in turn allowed Full Count to score four unearned runs.
Full Count overcame seven walks and three errors of their own to pick up the win.
