After a chaotic dead period, the Todd County Central football team is now fully focused on getting ready for the 2025 football season. Players, interested student-athletes, and parents turned out Tuesday evening to meet new head coach Will Cohen during a gathering in the auditorium at Todd County Central High School.
Cohen was named head coach right after the dead period came to an end after spending the past couple of seasons as an assistant on the Rebels’ staff.
Cohen’s elevation to the head coach position became necessary when former coach Chris Fletcher announced right before the dead period that he was stepping away from the program.
The late announcement by Fletcher left some concern for the status of the program going into the 2025 season. Most of that concern came as a result of the numbers issues that the Rebels faced at the end of the 2024 season. Late in the year, during a trip to Owensboro Catholic, the Rebels had just a handful of healthy reserves on the sideline for the game against the Aces.
While numbers are still a bit low, the number of players here early in the preseason is up from that point and there are hopes that more could turn out before the season officially kicks off August 22 at Ballard Memorial.
During Tuesday evening’s gathering, Cohen spoke about his vision for the program going forward and the expectations for his players. He also focused in on respect and accountability as core values for the Todd County Central program.
The Rebels are coming off a 2-9 season in 2024 that ended with a first-round playoff loss to Mayfield.
