Hopkinsville made the most of its limited time on the soccer field Friday with a 2-0 win over Boone County in the weather-shortened opener at the Bluegrass State Games in Lexington.

The Tigers got on the board quickly when Gavin Harton scored off a pass from Mikel Ramirez minutes into the contest. At the 13-minute mark, the teams were sent off the field for the first of several lightning delays that lasted 70 minutes.

Hoptown’s defense came up big early in the second half as the unit was able to clear several corner kicks and loose balls in the box.

Jason Macario gave the Tigers an insurance goal midway through the second half. The match was called early due to another round of lightning.

Hopkinsville will continue play at the BGSG with a pair of games on Saturday. The Tigers will play Bryan Station at 8:00 am and Wayne County at 2:00 pm.
