The Madisonville Miners and the Fulton Railroaders faced off in the Wild Card round of the Ohio Valley League Playoffs on Sunday evening, and it was unfortunately the end of the Miners’ season.
Hayes Melville made the start on the mound for the Railroaders, and was able to pitch six innings. He only allowed two hits and one run on his way to 10 strikeouts, which played a big factor in his team picking up the tight 5-4 win.
The Miners struck first in the first inning when Noah Berning hit a groundout that scored Pete Britton from third base.
They did not score again until the top of the ninth inning, but it was a big one, as Berning hit a home run that tied the game at four runs apiece. But it was the Railroaders who came out on top, as they hit a double to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Madisonville’s other hits in the game came from Nazhir Bergen and Ian Cartwright.
It might not have been the outcome that they were hoping for, but it was no doubt a fun season for the Madisonville Miners in 2025.
