
Jake Witherspoon’s top ten finish led the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons’ golf team Monday in their season-opening event at Park Mammoth Golf Course. The Maroons were competing in the Spartan Clash hosted by South Warren High School.
The event saw a long weather delay in the afternoon due to thunderstorms in the caveland area.
Witherspoon, a sophomore, finished his day with a 1-under par 69, placing him in a six-way tie for 6th place. He shot an even par 35 on the front nine, before closing with a one-under 34 on the back nine.
Brady Faulkner, of St. Xavier, took medalist honors with a 66. Boo Crawley, of Madison Central, was second with a 67.
For the rest of the Maroons:
Treyson Raymer – 77 – tied for 37th place
Tyler Bryan – 77 – tied for 37th place
Max Clayton – 84 – tied for 62nd place
Brennen Cole – 85 – tied for 66th place
In the team competition, Madisonville-North Hopkins finished with a score of 306, puting them in a tie for 9th place.
St. Xavier took 1st place with a 273. Madison Central was right behind in 2nd place with a 278.
