La Familia’s run in the TBT ended Tuesday night.
Anthony Clemmons made a 3-pointer that lifted the No. 2 seed Eberlein Drive to a 71-70 triumph over top-seeded La Familia in a dramatic finish in the Lexington Region final at Memorial Coliseum.
The heroic shot by Clemmons came after Archie Goodwin missed the second of two free throws that prevented the hosts from reaching the Elam Ending target score of 71 points. Goodwin shot the two free throws in the absence of Willie Cauley-Stein, who left the game because of an injury.
Eberlein Road landed a spot in the quarterfinals and will take on the winner of Sideline Cancer and LA Ignite on Monday night, with the winner clinching a spot in the semifinals of the 64-team, $1 million event.
Goodwin, who played for Eberlein Drive last year, scored 19 points, while Kahlil Whitney added 18. Whitney was a spark for La Familia in the fourth quarter, tallying seven points, including a 3-pointer that erased an eight-point deficit. Willie Cauley-Stein scored 12 points, and Andrew Harrison contributed 10. Goodwin scored the first four points and six of the initial eight for La Familia.
La Familia struggled from long range, especially in the first half, missing all eight of their 3-point attempts. Eberlein Drive made five, with Terry Taylor and Gabe York combining for four of those shots. La Familia didn’t make their first 3 until the third quarter, when DJ Burns drained a deep shot four minutes into the second half. The team made only three 3-pointers in the loss.
Former Austin Peay standout Terry Taylor scored eight straight points for Eberlein Drive in the first quarter. His 3-pointer sparked a 15-5 run, giving the visitors a 22-12 lead at the end of the frame. Taylor scored 10 points in the first quarter. Led by Taylor’s two 3-pointers, Eberlein Drive made four 3s in that period.
La Familia trailed by as much as 11 in the second quarter but cut the margin to 35-30 at halftime.
Taylor led all scorers with 12 points in the first half, while Goodwin led the hosts with 10 points. Taylor finished with 20 points, followed by Gabe York with 15 and Junathaen Watson with 14.

A missed freethrow and then give up a 3, sigh…they can't win games doing that.
