Former Kentucky receiver Cisco Bryant, like a lot of fathers, was heavily involved in his son Ty Bryant’s football upbringing.

But Cisco Bryant also knew there needed to be limits and he stuck to his “seven-minute rule” when discussing football with Ty, now a junior safety for Kentucky.

“I have always been hard on him,” Cisco Bryant said on WPBK-FM. “I sort of praise him for what he does well but he also always wants to know what he does not do well. I called it our seven-minute rule where I would tell him very strongly what he did wrong for three minutes, he would respond back respectfully for two minutes and then I would tell him what he did positively for the two minutes at the end.

“Sure, I get on him but he comes back and we figure it out. He is not perfect but in some games he truly does maximize his effort and when that happens I try to make sure I tell him that.

“He is 20 years old now and not once has he ever looked at me and said, ‘Pops, I am a grown man.’ He still respects what I say.”

So what does Cisco Bryant, a receiver under Jerry Claiborne at UK, hope his son does better this year than he did in 2024 when he started 10 games, made 41 tackles, forced two fumbles and made one interception?

“I want him to get more interceptions and break on the ball better and get some turnovers and help the team,” Cisco Bryant said.

  1. Making interceptions may not be in Ty's DNA. I would much rather see him make a pass breakup or at least a sure tackle for little or no gain than go for interceptions too often and miss that result in a big play or possibly a score. The photo above doesn't show him in a position to even make a stop on the play before a big gain is made. I know Cisco is his dad and means well, but Ty's coach may be telling him something different.

  2. All of "BBN" tries to tell coaches what to do, how to do it, who to play. Atleast Cisco has skin in the game. Go Cats!
