Emma Dowell shook off a nightmare second hole and bagged a top-10 finish at Monday’s South Warren Lady Spartan Invitational.

The Trigg County senior shot a career-best score of 76 (+6) at the Park Mammoth Golf Course, finishing in a three-way tie for seventh place with Graves County’s Emlie Miller and Bowling Green’s Ellie Morgan.

After a par on her first hole, Dowell struggled off the tee on No. 2, twice finding the tall grass and taking penalty strokes that saw her finish with a quintuple-bogey 9. Dowell shook off the bad hole and shot even par over her next seven holes, which included two birdies.

Dowell began the back nine with seven pars and finished with a 36. After the bad hole, Dowell shot one-over par over her final 16 holes to notch her best score.

South Oldham’s Avery Suiter and Cumberland County’s Kenzie Willen each shot a 2-over par 72 for the day’s best score.

The top-10 finish is important for Dowell as it adds All-State points to her profile for the season.

Trigg County is scheduled to host the Wildcat Invitational on Thursday at Boots Randolph Golf Course. The event was moved from Wednesday to Thursday due to the project heat.
