SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Drew Fincham

Whether it’s pitching strikes on the baseball diamond or pitching lobs toward the green, Christian County senior Drew Fincham combines intensity and fun to get the job done.

Drew has begun the golf season as the Colonels’ No. 1 golfer for the second straight year. He missed qualifying for the state first round last year by seven shots, a gap he hopes to close this year.

He kept busy over the summer, competing in several junior tour events and honing his game for his senior season. He also had some fun on July 1, teaming with Barry Payne to help raise over $4,000 for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes during a marathon day of golf and fundraising at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.

Drew jumped into the summer golf season after an impressive season on the mound for Christian County. His record in the spring was just 3-4, but he tallied a 1.69 ERA with 15 hits allowed in 29 innings. Perhaps his best game of the spring was a contest in which he was tagged with a loss. He went eight innings against Union County on April 19, allowed just two hits, and struck out eight in a 1-0 Colonels loss.

Drew’s senior season was a seismic leap from a sophomore campaign that saw him used primarily as a courtesy runner.

With his senior season now underway, Drew is looking to bookend standout years on the links and diamond. See what Drew had to say about his senior season and his approach to both golf and baseball as the latest Spotlight Athlete, sponsored by Parker Eye Care.
