
Coach Faye Hendricks used the weekend’s Bluegrass State Games to audition some players who may be expected to take on a big role for University Heights Academy this volleyball season.
Playing without two starters due to injury and two expected starters who transferred schools over the summer, Hendricks used her six games over the weekend to analyze and evaluate.
The Lady Blazers began play Friday at Woodford County against Garrard County (12-19) and Bell County (28-11).
UHA, playing without a pair of projected starters, lost to Garrard County 23-21, 21-18 and Bell County 21-9, 21-11.
The Lady Blazers were placed in a pool on Saturday at Henry Clay High School against Portland Christian (24-12), Walton-Verona (15-15), and Christian Fellowship (9-19).
UHA opened play with a 21-15, 21-6 loss to Portland Christian, a private school in Louisville.
The Lady Blazers dropped a close match with Christian Fellowship 21-19, 21-18 and ended the day with a 21-9, 21-13 loss to Walton-Verona.
UHA’s run at the Bluegrass State Games ended on Sunday with a 21-16, 21-6 loss to Williamsburg.
The Lady Blazers, 8-22 a year ago, will host Paducah Tilghman in a scrimmage on August 14.
