Lady Colonels Claim Silver Medal in Flight at Bluegrass State Games

The Christian County Lady Colonels shook off a slow start at the Bluegrass State Games in Lexington to claim the silver medal in their flight on Sunday.

The Lady Colonels outlasted Grant County 21-16, 13-21, 15-9 in Sunday’s opener at Bryan Station High School. Grant County was 19-14 a year ago.

They followed with a 21-19, 21-15 win over Second Region foe Caldwell County.

Christian County’s run came to an end in the championship match with a 21-8, 21-17 loss to Boyle County, which advanced to the 12th Region championship last year. The Lady Colonels finished the weekend with a 3-5 record.

The Lady Colonels opened play on Friday with a pair of losses at Lafayette High School against Thomas Nelson and DuPont Manual.

Christian County fell to Thomas Nelson, who was 17-14 last year, 21-16, 21-13, and to DuPont Manual 21-8, 21-7. The Louisville school was 29-11 last year and advanced to the 7th Region championship match.

They were placed in pool play on Saturday at Lexington Christian Academy with 44th District champion Madison Central, Williamsburg, and Paris.

The Lady Colonels fell 21-18, 21-10 to Madison Central, who were 21-17 last year.

They defeated Williamsburg, which was 17-14 last year, in their second match. After dropping the first set 21-15, the Lady Colonels rallied to take the final two sets 21-16 and 15-6.

In their final match of the day, they met Paris and lost 21-13, 21-15. Paris was 13-17 a year ago.

The Lady Colonels were 13-19 last year but are slated to return four starters in addition to a couple of transfers for the school’s final season of volleyball before they merge with Hopkinsville High in 2026.

Christian County will host Calloway County in an Aug. 12 scrimmage at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
