With seven seniors on last season’s roster, there were plenty of new faces on the pitch for the defending 2nd Region champion Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons Monday night as the Lady Maroons hosted the Murray Lady Tigers in a preseason scrimmage. Even with all of those roster changes, the Lady Maroons gave themselves a chance to get the win.
The Lady Tigers just missed out on the 1st Region title last season, falling to Marshall County in the championship game, and looked like a team ready to contend in the first this season.
Murray made two first-half goals stand up Monday night as the Lady Tigers took a 2-1 win over the Lady Maroons on their home field.
The Lady Tigers got on top at the 19:00 mark when Kendyll English scored to give Murray a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 2-0 fourteen minutes later when Presley Hatchett scored off a cross to move the lead out to 2-0.
The Lady Maroons got back in the thick of things at 55:00 when Coraline Knight drilled a shot from out front to cut the Murray lead to 2-1.
Madisonville picked up the pressure for the final 25 minutes but could not find a way to score the tying goal as Murray held on for the scrimmage win.
For the match, Murray outshot the Lady Maroons 18 to 8.
Nevaeh Lindle got the start in goal for Madisonville and finished with seven saves.
