Two teams looking to take steps forward got together on the football field Friday evening in Mortons Gap. The Hopkins County Central Storm, who lost in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs last season, matched up against the Calloway County Lakers, who suffered through a winless 2024 that saw them score just 70 points for the season.
Both teams had their chances but the game ended up in a 14-14 stalemate.
Calloway County scored in the first of the ten minute varsity quarters to take a 7-0 lead.

The Storm came back to tie things up at 7-7 when Isac Earl rambled in from 12 yards out with 4:49 to go in the second quarter.
The Lakers moved back into the lead moments later on a 41 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-7 at the break.
The game stayed that way until Jerimiah Groves picked one off and ran it back to tie it at 14-14 with 4:27 in the third.

Calloway County looked to be driving late but the Storm came up with a big stop to get the ball back and give themselves one last chance. However, the clock ran out with the Storm moving down the field and the game ended all knotted up.
Hopkins County Central will finish up the preseason next Friday night at home when they host the Hancock County Hornets.
