The Hopkinsville Tigers finished off the opening week of the season in style Thursday night. The Tigers scored 30 seconds into their match with Lyon County and then rolled on to an 8-0 win at the Stadium of Champions in a match played on a very soggy and wet turf after heavy rains rolled through Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon.
Jason Macario scored the first of his three first half goals with just a half minute gone in the first half to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Jamiah Shanklin extended the lead at the 16:10 mark, scoring off an assist from Alex Rameirez to make it 2-0.
Just over five minutes later, Jason Macario came down the left-hand side and then beat the goalie to push the lead on out to 3-0.
Macario had a deja vu moment at the 27:40 mark, scoring on the same type play, to give Hopkinsville a 4-0 lead over the Lyons.
The Tigers closed out their first half scoring on a run from Erick Hernandez to take a 5-0 lead at the break.
Hopkinsville completely controlled the flow of play in the opening half, out shooting the Lyons 17 to 1.
Lyon County opened the second half doing a better job of containment on the Hopkinsville attack.
The Lyons held the Tigers without a goal until the 62:20 mark. That goal seemed to re-spark the Hopkinsville offense as the Tigers scored three goals in 13 1/2 minutes to close out the game with the 8-goal rule.
Landon Beaulieu got the shutout in goal for Hopkinsville. Beaulieu and his back line defense allowed the Lyons few looks at the goal.
Hopkinsville (2-1) gets back to action Monday night when the Tigers host Madisonville-North Hopkins at the Stadium.
Lyon County (0-2) is scheduled to go to Owensboro Catholic on Saturday.
