Plans continue to progress for the addition of a new sport at Todd County Central High School. During its meeting Monday night, the Todd County Board of Education voted to approve adding bass fishing to the school’s offering of KHSAA sanctioned sports.
Superintendent Jessica Addison notes that the approval process really all started with both student interest and community support. She pointed to other area school systems that have competitive bass fishing teams and added that Todd County wanted to explore the possibility of giving their students the same opportunity.
Muhlenberg County is arguably the most successful program in Western Kentucky, having won several state championships.
Other Western Kentucky schools that are approved to compete in bass fishing and that are assigned to Region 1 include: Allen County-Scottsville, Apollo, Breckinridge County, Butler County, Calloway County, Christian County, Edmonson County, Franklin-Simpson, Graves County, Grayson County, Greenwood, Hancock County, Henderson County, Hopkins County Central, Hopkinsville, Logan County, Marshall County, McCracken County, Meade County, Muhlenberg County, Ohio County, South Warren, Trigg County, Trinity (Whitesville), Union County, and Warren East.
The KHSAA lists Livingston Central, Dawson Springs, and Foundation Christian Academy as programs that have been placed in a region but that are not currently offering a bass fishing team.
