Aidan Knight recorded a hat trick while Lou Bryant and Noah Mays each scored twice as Madisonville-North Hopkins dealt Caldwell County a 9-1 setback in 7th District action Thursday night.
The Maroons continued their dominance in the series. Madisonville has now taken 20 straight matches from Caldwell and holds a 28-1 advantage all-time.
Madisonville, 1-1 this season, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead at Donley Field thanks to a penalty kick by Dominic Blanford in the 3rd minute and a goal from in front by Knight in the 11th minute.
However, Caldwell (1-1) had some bright spots in the first half.
The Tigers’ Colin Turmero scored from the top of the box in the 24th minute to cut the gap to 2-1.
Caldwell then had a couple of chances to tie the match before the Maroons regained control.
Knight scored with help from Blanford in the 26th minute, then Bryant got an assist from Blanford in the 38th minute to send Madisonville to halftime with a 4-1 advantage.
As the Tigers tired in the second half, the Maroons seized full control of the match. Five goals in 8 minutes allowed Madisonville to end the game early on the mercy rule.
Bryant got his second goal in the 50th minute when he headed home a loose ball following a scramble in front of the net.
Nash Tapp scored on a PK in the 53rd minute to make it 6-1.
Knight’s third goal came in the 55th minute with Tapp picking up the assist.
Mays scored in the 56th minute with help from Tapp to extend the margin to 8-1.
Mays then ended the game with another tally in the 57th minute, blasting home a long shot to end the contest.
Madisonville held a 28-11 advantage in shots during the contest.
Grayson Harris made 12 saves in the Caldwell net.
Caldwell’s lone win over Madisonville was a 4-3 triumph in a penalty-kick shootout at Butler Stadium in Princeton in the 2012 season.
The Maroons will next host Elizabethtown on Saturday.
The Tigers play again on Tuesday, facing either Lyon County or University Heights Academy in the 2nd Region All A Classic semifinals at UHA.
