Caldwell County showed improvement, despite a loss at Apollo High School in Owensboro in football scrimmage action Friday night.
The Tigers led 17-7 before tiring late and seeing the Eagles come back to claim a 28-17 victory.
Carter Bedell had a defensive score for Caldwell while Kam Wilson scored on a touchdown run. Sutton Ritchey kicked a field goal as the Tigers built their 10-point lead in the second quarter.
However, Apollo came back to lead 21-17 at halftime.
Caldwell head coach Aaron McClung said the Tigers ran the ball well, even with the setback.
“Daelyn (Lander) had a bunch of rushing yards,” he noted. “He converted a lot of third downs with his feet.
“We played pretty well, but we got tired and they hit some big plays.”
Caldwell had played Greenwood to a 7-7 tie in its first scrimmage last week in Bowling Green.
The Tigers will open the regular season next week at Hopkins County Central.
