
On a night when sweat pores were running wide open, Trigg County matched the heat early with three goals in the first four minutes and rolled to an 8-0 win over Webster County at Josh Nichols Field.
The Class 2A Sectional win moves Trigg County into the semifinals against Murray on Aug. 26 at Calloway County High School.
Lydia Redd got the Lady Wildcats off to a fast start with a pair of goals in the first 38 seconds of the match. Her first tally came from a feed from Leiah Hite from the middle with Addison Humphries assisting on the second goal.
Humphries and Redd switched roles three minutes later, with Humphries scoring the first of her three goals.
Trigg County continued getting looks at the goal but endured a 20-minute scoreless stretch thanks to wayward shots and several point-blank saves from Webster County’s freshman goalie Delyliah Cutteridge.
Maggie Wolfe ended the scoring drought in the 26th minute, heading in a corner kick from Hite.
A minute later, Brooke Humphries fed her sister, Addison, on a free kick, which led to Trigg’s fifth goal of the half.
Trigg finished up the scoring with three goals in a two-minute stretch. Redd completed her hat trick off a feed from Wolfe, followed by a tally from Leiah Hite and Addison Humphries.
The match was called at halftime due to the eight-goal mercy rule.
Trigg County outshot Webster 20-0, although Cutteridge was able to save 11 shots for the Lady Trojans, who fell to 0-2.
The win was Trigg’s seventh straight against Webster County dating back to 2019, with the last five coming by the mercy rule. Trigg County leads the all-time series 18-2.
Webster County will travel to Muhlenberg County on Thursday, while Trigg County (3-1) will host Owensboro on Saturday.
