A battle to the wire in the season opener Monday night for the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm volleyball team. Facing the defending regional runner-up Union County, the Lady Storm pushed the Bravettes to the limit before falling in five sets.
Union County came out strong and took the opening set 25-13.
The Lady Storm battled back and took the next two sets, winning the second 25-19 and then the third 25-20 to go up two sets to one with the momentum firmly on their sideline.
But the Bravettes would not go away. Union County fought through a tough fourth set to take a 25-21 and even the match at two sets each.
The deciding 5th set was no different than the rest of the match, with a back-and-forth battle to the end. Union County would end up doing enough to take a 16-14 win and, in turn, claim the match three sets to two.
Hopkins County Central (0-1) is back in action Tuesday evening at home against McLean County.
