
While the weather at the start of Thursday night’s match between Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkinsville was much cooler than it had been for much of the time since the end of the dead period, the Lady Maroons were sizzling hot coming out of the game.
Madisonville scored three goals in the first ten minutes and the Lady Maroons carried that momentum over to a 6-1 win over the Lady Tigers in Madisonville.
Freshman Aletheia Golightly got the Lady Maroons started just 1:45 into the match when she scored from right in front of the goal to make it 1-0.
Madisonville struck again at the 5:00 mark when Hadley Hodges drilled a long shot near the edge of the box from the right-hand side to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Lady Maroons wrapped up the early blitz as Camree Young took a pass from Macy Wright and directed it into the net, making it a 3-0 lead just ten minutes into the contest.
The Lady Tigers stemmed the tide at the 14:00 mark when Kaydon Coats scored off an assist from Kaylyn Burgess Lynch, cutting the lead to 3-1.
It did not take the Lady Maroons long to answer. Carly Gillette took a rebound off a corner kick and nudged it into the net to push the lead back out to 4-1. That would be the lead as the two teams went to the break.
The Madisonville-North Hopkins defense would pitch a shutout over the final 40 minutes. On the other end, Coraline Knight and McKinley Wilson added second-half goals as the Lady Maroons pulled out to the five-goal win.
Aletheia Golightly and Hadley Hodges had two assists each for the Lady Maroons.
Jaleigha McFarland finished the night in goal with 10 saves for the Lady Tigers.
Madisonville-North Hopkins (2-1) returns to action Saturday morning as the Lady Maroons host Christian County.
Hopkinsville (1-2) goes on the road Saturday morning to take on Logan County.
