
Leiah Hite’s second-half goal proved to be the game-winner for Trigg County on Saturday night as they edged Owensboro 2-1 at Josh Nichols Field.
The Lady Wildcat senior scored less than four minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tie. The goal was the 100th of Hite’s career as she became the third Trigg player to reach the milestone. Her sister Lania scored 145 in her career, reaching the 100-goal mark two years ago. Lania finished her career with 145 goals, five more than Lauren Frazier.
Lilly Richardson got Trigg County on the board in the 33rd minute to stake the Lady Wildcats to a 1-0 lead.
Trigg County’s defense came up large in the contest against an Owensboro squad that entered Saturday with a 4-1 record and averaging over seven goals a game in its four wins.
Trigg County improved to 3-1 and has allowed six goals in four matches.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0-1 all-time against Owensboro.
Hite is the second player in the region to reach the 100-goal milestone in as many nights. University Heights Academy’s Kendall Hancock passed the century mark in a Friday victory in the All A Classic region championship.
Trigg County will continue its suspended match with Caldwell County on Monday night. The contest began on Aug. 12 and was delayed three times in the first half due to lightning before it was suspended with eight minutes left in the first half with Trigg County leading 2-1.
