
Isael Damian scored twice, and Walker Bell added a second-half goal to lead Calloway County past Hopkins County Central 3-1 in the Class 2A Sectional semifinals on Tuesday. The Lakers will meet Murray in Thursday’s championship after the Tigers defeated Trigg County 1-0 in the other semifinal.
The defenses were in control of the first half, although Calloway County held a 10-1 advantage in shots.
Damian got Calloway County on the board in the 34th minute with a goal from the middle of the box.
Hopkins County Central regrouped at halftime and tied the match on a tally by Jude Mitchell that hit the crossbar and caromed straight down across the goal line.
Bell scored on a through ball in the 55th minute, and Damian added an insurance goal with less than four minutes left for the final margin.
Hopkins County Central (3-2) will play at Webster County on Thursday.
Calloway County (4-2-1) will meet Murray in Thursday’s championship at Trigg County, looking to snap a seven-game losing streak to the Tigers.
