Jaland Lowe has a trait that Kentucky coach Mark Pope calls a “beautiful skill” that should help the Pittsburgh transfer be exactly the point guard/leader that UK needs.
Pope recently told Matt Norlander on the “CBS Sports College Basketball” podcast that Lowe has a trait most people do not have.
“He actually has the beautiful skill of not being overly concerned with what other people like about him in any given moment,” Pope said. “And that’s actually a really important skill as a leader. Sometimes you gotta be a truth teller. Sometimes you gotta hold people accountable.”
Pope admitted he was not that way himself.
“For those of us that are born pleasers sometimes that can be really challenging. There’s no fear in him to be like this is how it is, and if you like it or don’t like it, it doesn’t matter. It’s just the truth,” Pope said.
Lowe averaged almost 17 points per game last season but Pope wants him to be much more than just a scorer. He’s watched him become a “great leader” during summer practice workouts.

Yes he does Paul
A lot of the talking heads are dissing him before he has played one game for UK. They will ALL be eating their words. This kid can play.
I think he can too Barry
Truly this young man is a leader and an ideal lead/point guard. Kentucky basketball should thrive with him on the roster – IF he can stay healthy. We saw last year what can happen if that's not the case.
This team has Aberdeen as the first point reserve and Chandler as the second. Even Johnson could play the point in a pinch. Chandler will be better this year if he gets any chance to play.
