The Christian County Colonels football team was looking for their first win of the season going into Friday night, but they unfortunately crossed paths with a Mayfield Cardinals team that was absolutely on fire.

On the opening kickoff, Mayfield was able to take the kick all the wya back to the house to basically start the game already having a seven point lead. But the scoring did not stop there.

Before the end of the first quarter, the Cardinals got two rushing touchdowns to make it 21-0, as well as forcing a fumble. Then right out of the gates in the second quarter, they were able to return a Christian County punt for a touchdown to extend their lead to 28.

They then got a pick six, which meant that the clock would run from then on, as they had a 35-point lead. At the halftime break, it was 42-0, and the game kept going that way, as the Cardinals were able to win by a score of 55-0.

The game wasn’t without its bright spots for the Colonels, as one of them was senior quarterback Tom Johnson getting into the game and playing after suffering a serious looking injury in Week 1 of the season. One of the other positives was an interception and solid return from Christian County’s own senior defensive back Darius Finch.

The Colonels will be looking for their first win of the season in their next game on Friday, September 5, against Mckenzie. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Stadium of Champions.
