I wasn’t sure if I wanted to participate in the Fourth Annual Titletown Turkey Trot this year or not.

It’s Thanksgiving morning at 8:15 and I thought maybe sleeping in and then taking a late morning walk would be a better option. However, I’ve already entered the 5K (3.1 mile) because the event is honoring the memory of Deangelo Durham.

He’s a former Danville High School football and baseball player who passed away at age 38 on Nov. 22, 2024 — three days before the Titletown Turkey Trot. Proceeds will go to a scholarship program for Durham’s two children, daughter Kyla and son, Kade.

Durham loved Kentucky basketball and football and always wanted to talk about the Cats. He was always smiling and happy no matter what he was doing or where he was.

So yes, I will be making my way around the 3.1-mile course that starts at Boyle County High School and goes through Millennium Park before finishing at the high school.

Runners, walkers, kids, strollers and pets are all welcome and encouraged to join us. Not only is there a 5K, but also a one-mile Gobble Wobble for those who want a shorter walk or jog.

The 5K will be chip timed by Race Rise and will have awards for overall and age groups.  All participants will receive a Titletown Turkey Trot branded long sleeve shirt and a commemorative finisher medal.

There will be a food/coffee truck on site, bounce house, games and free popcorn and cotton candy.
