Lady Maroons Finish 1-5 at Apollo Summer Slam Down

A full weekend on the volleyball court for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons. The Lady Maroons were in Owensboro Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Apollo Summer Slam Down.

The Lady Maroons opened play Friday night against 3rd Region opponent Breckinridge County. The Lady Tigers, who entered the weekend at 4-0, took a straight set match, winning 25-8 and 25-8. Leah Moody had two kills and two digs. Cadence Curry added 4 assists for the Lady Maroons.

Madisonville’s second match of the night Friday was against 4th Region power Logan County. The match was a tighter battle, but still belonged to the Lady Cougars in straight sets. Logan won 25-16 and 25-19. Leah Moody had another solid match with 3 kills, 3 assists, 2 aces, 1 block, and 1 dig. Cadence Curry ended up with 4 assists and 1 ace. Bri Petitt chipped in with 2 kills and 2 blocks.

Saturday began with the Lady Maroons taking on Lexington Tates Creek. Tates Creek ended up taking the win 25-19 and 25-21. Leah Moody led Madisonville with 6 assists, 2 digs, 1 kill, 1 block, and 1 ace. Katie Beth Sutton added 4 digs, 2 kills, and 1 ace. Carlee Sandidge ended up with 5 digs.

Madisonville then faced off against neighbor, McLean County. This one came down to the wire, but it was the Lady Cougars taking the 2-1 win, 25-22, 23-25, and 15-12. Leah Moody finished with 8 digs, 5 kills, 4 assists, and 1 ace. Cadence Curry finished with 13 assists, 7 digs, 1 assist, and 1 kill. Bri Petitt added 7 kills and 1 block.

The Lady Maroons’ next match was another three-set battle and this time it went the Lady Maroons’ way. Madisonville took down Whitesville Trinity 25-19, 17-25, and 17-15. Cadence Curry had 14 assists, 5 digs, and 1 kill. Leah Moody added 8 assists, 7 kills, 2 digs, and 2 aces. Bri Petitt ended the match with 8 blocks and 4 kills.

Madisonville finished its weekend with a match against Edmonson County. The Lady Wildcats took a straight set win 25-21 and 25-19. Another big match for Leah Moody, who had 6 digs, 4 kills, and 4 assists. Carlee Sandidge added 5 digs and 1 ace. Cadence Curry added 4 assists, 2 digs, and 1 ace.

The Lady Maroons will get back to action Tuesday evening when the host Caldwell County in a big 7th District contest.
